Matera – Mother city, Christina-Panagiota Petrakou
In Greece, we use the term ‘’Mitera’’ to refer to our mothers. That word reminds me of Matera. Because if we change the ‘’a’’ and replace it with ‘’i’’, we have the word ‘’Mitera’’. And this how I feel about that city. Like a mother, who protected me, impressed me and her residents are her children, hospitable and unique.
I tried to explore the city in the morning and in the evening. During the day, it was raining just a little bit, but I was still able to walk around, observe the unique beauty of the houses, the buildings, the streets. In the night, especially on Saturday, the center of the city was full of people, who were laughing, drinking, having a good time. I remember, one day, there was a piano in the street and some children started to sing the song ‘’Bella Ciao’’. For me, was such a different experience.
I hope I will have the opportunity to visit again this wonderful city, even though this whole experience will be unforgettable. Like a dream that came true. To visit Italy, meet the Italian culture and get to know the Italian people, some of whom have become so special to me.
So many memories, in just three days.
